May 8, 2020: Advice from women
After listening to Gabrielle Hamilton's account of what Prune has meant to her, Steve picked up a copy of her memoir: Blood, Bones & Butter. I'm a few chapters in and already feeling the push-pull of wanting to savor this book and refusing to put it down (the first chapter alone was enough to get me hooked.) I've been reading loads of library books on my Kindle and it's been nice to hold a physical book again.
Yesterday, I listened to another smart and talented woman: Jessica Valenti. I've seen a lot of her tweets and read some of her work, but this was a chance to hear her chat with another feminist writer as part of The Wing's digital events series. Their conversation was a feminist evaluation of Joe Biden's candidacy and was built upon her Medium essay on the same topic. I'm not sure where I stand or how I feel but wanted to hear what (some) women are saying and feeling and thinking about how Biden has addressed the accusation by Tara Reade. I'm trying to work on being comfortable with discomfort. Check back with me to see how I do.
