March 18, 2020: Starting to share
One of the things I most enjoy about my friends is the easy way we share ideas back and forth. Have you read....? I thought of you when I saw an article about.... You have to try making these....!
I thought it would be fun to share things I do, read, try, make and get excited about with you, here on my blog. So, here goes!
Save Me The Plums is a book I wished wouldn't end! I loved reading about Ruth Reichl's decision to say yes to being editor in chief of Gourmet, appreciated how she figured out a new industry and connected with colleagues, and enjoyed that she tackled every challenge with a sense of adventure. One of my favorite parts of her memoir is in the acknowledgments, where she recalls a former colleague telling her that working at Gourmet was his last fun job and Ruth urges us to consider that all work should be fun!
I love subscribing to the Sunday New York Times. More specifically, I enjoy the ritual of making coffee and curling up with the paper on Sunday morning. When I can't get to a section or insert, I save it to pick up later. One of my recent go-back-tos was I Quit, a collection of 20 short essays describing people's experiences quitting something. I really liked the essays about quitting cars and quitting buying things. Lifestyle changes are fascinating and inspiring.
I've started this blog during the COVID-19 outbreak, when social distancing is the norm and we're all looking for ways to stay sane indoors. Steve and I subscribed to a puzzle subscription service from Buffalo Games & Puzzles. Mid-month for six months, we'll receive a new 2,000 piece puzzle in the mail! We even get to choose from a menu of options before it's sent. I'm excited to get puzzling! (UPDATE: Buffalo Games has temporarily closed their factory to keep its employees safe -- no shipments just yet!)
I love this idea! A few things I've been exploring these days:
ReplyDelete1) Masterclass -- So far I've finished two comedy courses-- one with Judd Apatow and the other with David Sedaris. Just started an economics course with Paul Krugman (especially relevant right now).
2) A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara -- still waiting on this one in the mail, but have only heard good things.
3) Peloton made their app free for the next 90 days. I'm not a big spin person and definitely cannot afford that bike right now haha but the app has all different kinds of workout classes!
Oooh, thanks Caroline, I appreciate these suggestions!
