March 30, 2020: Purpose + fun
Cooking and baking has never felt as important, as urgent, as it does during this shelter-at-home lifestyle. Cooking dinner gives me a purpose (it's an activity!) and gives my day additional meaning. I've been sourcing a lot of new recipes from Bon Appetit and have loved their Risotto with Mushrooms and Thyme and One-Pot Gingery Chicken with Rice and Peanut Sauce. Last night's Scallion Pancakes made us feel like adventurous cooks!
I am addicted to the New York Times Spelling Bee word game. I'm a late adopter, having spent the past year occupying myself with the NYT crossword puzzle on cross-country flights. Spelling Bee tricks you by seeming easy then quickly proves itself to be tough. And the simple scoring system of good, excellent, and genius compels me to try to be better than good...
How great is fresh air? Because of the limitations on our movement, getting outside periodically feels particularly precious and valuable. I'm enjoying walking the hills in our neighborhood and smelling the flowers blooming.
